Abstract:
This seminar will present field and simulation results for existing buildings in extreme hot climates of Oman. Energy-efficient strategies including architectural passive systems, lighting systems, and mechanical systems are evaluated using validated building simulation programs. In addition, a case study of real net-zero energy housing in Oman will be presented. The seminar will highlight how net-zero energy building can be achieved in cooling dominate climate using passive and active systems complemented with renewable energy systems with possibility to dispatch extra energy to the grid.


Bio:
Dr. Saleh Al-Saadi is an assistant professor and the program coordinator of the Architectural Engineering program at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman. He holds a Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering (Specialization: Building systems engineering) from the University of Colorado at Boulder (USA). Dr. Saleh has a diversified work experience in industry and academia. His current research interests include modeling, design and analysis of building energy systems, energy conservation, energy auditing and retrofitting opportunities in existing buildings, renewable and sustainable energy applications for buildings.
